The Federal Government pays 30% by a credit against taxable income of the cost of a solar install. This can be spread over three years.
DWP pays about 25% as of 9-19-12 by check, within 8 weeks.
That leaves about half to be paid by the owner or financed.
An even better option is a 20-year lease. This requires NO money down, is LESS than your current bi-monthly bill, and includes FULL warranty and maintenance.
DWP rates go up each year by approximately 6.7%, or about double in ten years. Therefore, you start saving IMMEDIATELY, have a near flat-line bill for 20 years that will be about half the going rate ten years from now, and then it drops to near zero at the end of the lease period.
At that point you own the solar system outright, sell back your unused power, and have near-zero maintenance costs.
