58 Impala Diary Page 3

8/6/06

Nothing much has occurred with the Impala since May.

Last week Roy took the 348 engine home to start disassembly, I have given him the engine as a project to rebuild, for money.

I have found a full rebuild kit, less crank and rods, for $1200 on ebay. I have questions for the seller, such as what bore sizes does he accommodate, what is the impact of using the 409/425 HP cam in the 348, etc.

The front left brake system remains unsatisfactory, but I have not returned it to Willard to be examined. I will do so this week. I got no answer from the fellow who claimed huge interest in buying the Impala, despite leaving several messages. I may offer it up at a high price and see what happens.

Mind you, I have never thought to sell it, but I am at a point with 12 vehicles where stuff has gotta go. So the Condor, Regal, Impala, and another 62 Impala, 64 Dodge Polara with a soon-to-be installed 1426 Hemi, the 47 Stude Champion, and even the work truck are ALL going to go as possible.

I have three trucks, and the dually, while beautiful and freshly painted, will be offered up as well.

I have a project truck, an 06 Duramax with only 430 miles, which I may keep if I can off some other vehicles. That would leave me with only the 58 Impala and the Duramax and the 47 Stude KiloKub tuck project, and well, the FC and trailer.

So the 58 and the truck would be it for daily transportation, the FC for shows and racing, and the KK for jaw-dropping displays and occasional putting around town.

The 58 will get the 348 and tripower installed, some brakes re-re-re-redo, and an AC system if I keep it.

I have moved all the spare parts to the rear of the property, and I will be selling off the 58's AC system, so spare wheels, and perhaps a radio.
